Year after year, I shoot plenty of weddings and portraits. But, some assignments stay on in my mind like this engagement session (pre-wedding shoot) done a few summers ago for a lovely couple Shamala & Sagar at a beautiful Villa in Goa.
Villa Arcangela is a boutique Portuguese style villa located at Sangolda village in north Goa. It isn’t far from the popular north Goan beach holiday destinations – about 15-20 minutes drive from Calangute and Baga. Beaches are popular locations for making couple portraits. And when in Goa, the beach is the first thing that probably would come to the mind of a destination photographer. But, for the couple Shamala and Sagar, we decided to go off-beat and do a shoot elsewhere. Villa Arcangela became the perfect venue for this shoot.
It has been three years now since we did this shoot. My shooting style has evolved over this period of time. I wonder if we are to visit this place again, would I approach the subject in a different way? Maybe, yes. And that’s why perhaps photographs represent a lot more than what is seen in the superficial layer. Photographs capture the aesthetics, mood, and lifestyle of a particular time period in history – they are a window to a bygone era. Three years is not that long a period to notice differences. I should revisit the place at least a decade from now.
Here is a photo gallery of selected pictures from this assignment. And as I post this gallery, it happens to be Shamala and Sagar’s wedding anniversary today. Happy wedding anniversary guys, and thanks for giving me the honor of making photographs of one of the most important days of your lives.
