Touch, Hear, Play, Learn – Playspaces for the Visually Impaired

Touch, Hear, Play, Learn is a short-film that I made for Kilikili. Kilikili is a non-profit organisation based in Bangalore city. It is essentially a network of parents of children with disabilities, supported by volunteers, working to develop Inclusive Play environments.

My relationship with Kilikili goes back a long way to the time when I had just started off as a photographer. It was the year 2006, and I had got my first commissioned assignment. The assignment was to photograph the transformation of  Bangalore’s Coles Park into a Universally Accessible Park (UAP). The purpose of  this UAP was to make Coles Park’s play-area accessible to children with disabilities.  This was Kilikili’s first project. Since then, Kilikili has undertaken many such projects.

I was glad to be back shooting for Kilikili once again. This time it was to make a multimedia presentation of their work done at two blind schools in Bangalore. Kilikili with the help of a grant received from Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, had created play-spaces for the visually impaired children at Shree Ramana Maharishi Association for the Blind and at Mathru Educational Trust for the Blind. My task was to visually showcase this project along with a series of interviews with the experts involved in creating these play spaces.

Touch, Hear, Play, Learn is a short documentary film of about 14 minutes duration. It is a multimedia project that I produced using a Digital SLR camera.

The documentary is available for free viewing across the world. Shared at the top of this post is the complete film on YouTube. Watch it and please do share the link around.
