I have always loved long-term photography projects. Some of my personal editorial and documentary photography projects (Example: Fistful of Dreams) were assignments that I worked on for over a year to produce a body of work that I truly loved. I loved not only the end result but also the very process of making it. Same applies to commissioned photography assignments like portraits session. Here is a baby/newborn portrait assignment that I loved working on for over a period of 7 months tracking the progress of my little gentleman of a client, Vihaan.
Vihaan was just 6 months old when I did his first portrait session. His mother had commissioned me to do monthly portrait sessions with him, from the time he was 6 months old till the day he turned a year old. So every month when the baby hit a milestone in his life, I made a trip to his farmhouse to make his portraits along with his family. My last portrait shoot location was at the J W Marriott hotel in Bangalore where his first birthday party was held.
Photographing this baby was a lovely creative exercise. His mother was very involved in the portraits sessions right from deciding his costumes, props, and location, to the Photo Book design. This collaboration contributed a lot to the success of this project.
Find below, a gallery with a selected set of photographs (my personal favorites) from this assignment series.
