A Mangalorean Catholic Wedding

A Mangalorean Christian Catholic Wedding photograph. Bangalore. December 2015. www.nishantratnakar.com

The year 2015 ended on a good note for me. I am a Mangalorean living in Bangalore city (My roots are in Udupi-Mangalore coastal region). Yet, I have covered very few weddings which were completely a Mangalorean affair. In the past, I have photographed few Mangalorean Konkani Hindu weddings but I hadn’t been commissioned to shoot… Continue reading A Mangalorean Catholic Wedding

A Tamil Wedding at Ganjam Mantap

Meghna & Ravee. Bangalore. November 2015. www.nishantratnakar.com

South Indian Tamilian brahmin weddings are usually very long with elaborate rituals. And rituals usually last for two full days. That would mean two full days of wedding photography for me. And it is always a challenging task to shoot two full 8-12 hour sessions on consecutive days. Many times, the shoot begins at wee… Continue reading A Tamil Wedding at Ganjam Mantap

One of the reasons I love to shoot Indian weddings is for its intrinsic cultural show of customs, traditions and rituals. Indian Wedding Photography Galleries – 1

I am a documentary photographer and photograph weddings from the perspective of a visual storyteller. My wedding photography style is largely unscripted and candid. Below are a set of galleries with previews from various weddings photographed by me across India.

The Democratic Photographic Republic of India

The Democratic Photographic Republic of India is a project that celebrates the democracy in photography craft that is seen today. The subject of this project are the non-professional wedding photographers at Indian weddings. These photographers are essentially the guests at a wedding - the family and friends of the couple getting married. They are not the photographers who were commissioned to photograph the weddings. In fact, It was I who was commissioned to photograph these weddings, and in the course of these assignments I pursued this project on the sidelines. Chennai, 2014.

The Democratic Photographic Republic of India is a project that celebrates democracy in photography craft that is seen all over the world today.
